Chief Medical Officer hails ‘amazing work’ of staff to significantly boost rating in just one year.
Carpenters Practice in Stratford, east London, has been rated as Good in all areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its latest inspection in July, a jump of two places since June 2021 when it was rated ‘Inadequate’.
The CQC inspection looked in detail at whether the practice was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. During their time on-site, the inspectors observed our staff treating patients with “kindness, respect and compassion” and the practice’s “…culture which drove high quality sustainable care.”. The CQC report also highlighted the care for patients with long term conditions, and for vulnerable patients with mental health, dementia and substance abuse.
Carpenter’s Practice is managed by AT Medics, part of the Operose Health Group.
Professor Nick Harding OBE, Chief Medical Officer for Operose Health said, “I can’t think of another GP surgery that has made this level of progress in such a short time in recent years. This rating is all down to the amazing work of our staff and the desire to go above and beyond to improve care for our patients.”
The CQC rates NHS providers as: Outstanding; Good; Requires Improvement and; Inadequate. Currently, 97% of Operose Health’s 66 GP practices across the country are rated as Good or Outstanding.
Other areas highlighted in the CQC’s report included:
• All patients having a named GP.
• Same day appointments offered to parents or guardians with concerns about an ill child.
• Offering urgent appointments for patients with complex medical issues.
• Extended hours during weekday evenings.
• Compassionate, inclusive and effective leadership at all levels of the practice.
• Improvements to the management of patients with long term conditions and those on repeat medications.
• Being responsive to the needs of older patients.
• Recognising religious and cultural observances of some patients and acting accordingly – for example, responding to bereavements outside of normal working hours in line with families wishes.
• Supporting vulnerable patient groups such as the homeless and those from the traveller population.
• Adjusting delivery of our service to meet the needs of patients with learning disabilities.
